397: The Blood Sugar Mistakes Wrecking Your Hormones with Being Brigid

This week I am sharing my guest appearance on my dear friend Brigid's podcast and it is the perfect episode to listen to as you get back to school ready.

Brigid is one of my favorite people in the wellness space and this conversation went deep on the topics I am most passionate about right now. Everything I have been teaching for over a decade, everything I believe about food and health and how we raise our kids, all in one conversation. Grab it for your next school pickup run, morning walk, or commute.

The Science of Blood Sugar, the Fab Four, and Why Protein Matters More as We Age

This episode starts where everything in my work starts: the Fab Four. Protein, fat, fiber, and greens. When you build every meal around all four nutrients you slow glucose absorption, flatten the insulin response, and stay genuinely satisfied for four to six hours without restriction or willpower.

I go deeper on protein specifically because the research on what adequate protein does for women as we age is something every woman in her thirties and forties needs to understand. I also share what I am personally doing with creatine and magnesium daily and why I consider both non-negotiables right now. Creatine for brain health, mood, muscle preservation, and sleep quality. Magnesium for deeper sleep, a calmer nervous system, and the neuroprotection that matters especially during hormonal transitions.

Motherhood, Sugar, and Raising Three Boys in a High-Sugar World

As a mom of Sebastian, Taschen, and Julian, the food environment my boys are growing up in is something I think about constantly. The amount of sugar children are consuming today is staggering and what the research shows about its impact on developing brains, behavior, focus, and long-term metabolic health is something I cannot stay quiet about.

The afternoon meltdowns, difficulty concentrating, mood dysregulation, and constant hunger are not behavior problems. They are blood sugar problems. And they are fixable. I share why I am so passionate about changing the way we use sugar as a reward for children and what parents can do right now to create better boundaries without making food a source of fear or shame.

A First Look at Sweet Deal

I am also giving you a first look at Sweet Deal, my newest passion project and the movement I have been building toward for a long time. Sweet Deal is about creating systemic change in the environments where our children spend most of their time so the default option is not always the one that spikes blood sugar. Not fear-based. Not restrictive. Just better boundaries, better tools, and a community of parents ready to advocate for their kids.

This is the work I feel most called to right now. I hope you will listen and then join us.
